The Hutchinson Piranha Air Light is a fast tire for hard-packed XC conditions. Air Light means that Hutchinson trimmed any non-essential material from the casing, tread and bead to drop crucial grams from this tire, dramatically increasing acceleration and decreasing rolling resistance. The Piranha's low center treads provide just enough grip for climbing, while its higher side lugs dig down into corners at high speed, making this a great XC tire for racing on dry, rolling singletrack. It isn't a super-burly tire, mind you, but it wasn't designed to be one. If burly's what you want you'll find it next door, with the 40-pound downhill sedans and the full-face helmets.
